MARTIN
BIOGRAPHY
The California born and raised country singer grew up listening to grunge and rock bands like Pearl Jam, Nirvana and Red Hot Chili Peppers. It wasn’t until a trip to Hawaii after graduating high school that his love of country music was realized. All his buddies on the trip, already country fans, had brought a collection of country albums. Tim McGraw’s ‘A Place in the Sun’ was the soundtrack to that weeklong trip in paradise. “I think we literally wore out the CD!” Martin recalls laughing. After that he never looked back.
Fast forward 12 years and at the suggestion of his wife Kristina he purchased his first guitar as a creative outlet from the daily grind of his corporate career. Falling in love with it nearly immediately, he taught himself a few chords and started covering popular country tunes. Soon after, Martin reluctantly started performing at weekly open mics. Thinking back on his first performances Martin shares “I got a late start on my musical career” smiling “The idea of performing was daunting and yet it was something I really wanted to do!”
Martin very openly admits he is still finding his place as a songwriter and artist. Seeking to blend traditional and contemporary country with elements of the boot stompin Honky Tonk style of his native California made popular by artists like Dwight Yoakam and Jon Pardi.
His journey into music is an unlikely one, following an untraditional path and defined by a few fateful events and chance meetings. It’s a story that proves it’s never too late to change your course, discover your passion and align your stars.
